In Memory of Patrolman Jeffery Warren Tackett

Officer Jeffery Warren Tackett, was born March 1, 1965, in Indiana, his family relocated to Florida and settled in Pinellas County where Jeff attended local schools. Officer Tackett joined the Belleair Police Department on July 14, 1988. He was an officer who excelled in his duties, receiving commendations for his service to the town.
Tackett, 28, a five-year veteran responded to a citizen’s call in reference to suspicious noises outside her condominium window at approximately 11:15 P.M., on Sunday, June 13, 1993.
Upon arrival Officer Tackett encountered a male subject attempting to gain entry into the occupied condominium. While placing the subject under arrest a struggle ensued and Officer Tackett was shot with his duty weapon, severing the femoral artery, he died at the scene.
Officer Tackett is the only Belleair Police Officer to be killed in the line of duty.
Lorenzo Lamar Jenkins, 31, was arrested later in Clearwater and charged with murder, he was convicted and is serving a life sentence.
Officer Tackett was survived by his parents, his wife, a brother, and countless friends. Burial was at Serenity Gardens.
