bagesCriminal Justice - Basic Abilities Test (CJ-BAT)

This test is sometimes referred to as the “BAT” or the “FBAT.”

Please note: If you are a regular PASS Applicant, we will schedule your testing when you register for the PASS Process. Because the fee for the test is included in your registration, there will be no additional charge.

For those wishing only to take the CJ-BAT without registering for the PASS Process:

  • We administer both the Law Enforcement and Corrections versions of the CJ-BAT every Tuesday and Thursday morning at the PASS Office.
  • Because space is limited, we ask that you call us in advance at 727-864-3822 to schedule your test.
  • If you are not able to attend the test as scheduled, please call us to cancel so we can make space available to other applicants.
  • The cost of the test is $75 – payable only by a money order to the Pinellas Police Standards Council. The fee is non-refundable.
  • You must be present no later than 8:15 a.m. on the morning you are scheduled for testing and identify yourself by means of government issued photo identification, such as a driver license.
  • Testing starts at 9 a.m. and will end by 11:30 a.m. You may leave sooner if you are finished with the test.
  • Cell phones, cameras and similar electronic devices are not permitted in the testing room.
  • The CJ-BAT is scored by the test publisher. The official results are then reported to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), where they are entered in the Automated Training Management System (ATMS), which is available to all training centers and law enforcement or corrections employers throughout the state. If you wish a copy of your test results, we will mail it to you when we receive it from the test publisher.
  • Test results are valid for 4-years from the date of testing.

CJ-BAT Background Information and Practice Testing

To learn more about the CJ-BAT you may wish to visit the web site of the test publisher, Morris and McDaniel Inc. While the CJ-BAT does not measure job knowledge or other dimensions that require study, some like to practice before taking a test. The test publisher provides practice tests for an additional fee on their web site.
